STORY CAFÉ SPECIAL: LIFE SUPPORT, Thursday 19 August 2021, 1pm – 2.30pm
Join us for a Story Café that explores texts by writers including Saidiya Hartman and Cathy McCormack about housing and the concept of ‘home’ from approaches that span the activist to the poetic.
OPEN FORUM: HOUSING IS A FEMINIST ISSUE, Wednesday 22 September 2021, 2pm
Presented in partnership with Living Rent, this online workshop will feature short talks from a range of speakers including the artist Martha Rosler, followed by small group discussions and collective feedback. Together we will explore housing activism as part of feminist struggle, with a focus on creative organising and movement-building.
OPEN ARCHIVES: BUILDING COMMUNITY ACROSS COLLECTIVES, Thursday 30 September 2021, 6pm – 7.30pm
How have grassroots collectives worked together to sustain and care for each other? This Open Archive explores the traces of feminist, queer, anti-racist, and community organising in the GWL archives, spotlighting material from groups that have built intersecting support networks across political struggles.
ARTISTS IN CONVERSATION, Wednesday 6 October 2021, 2pm – 4pm
This informal conversation between artists who have created works for the Life Support exhibition and members of the curatorial team will encompass themes including health and care.

OUR HOUSING HISTORIES: PERSONAL TIMELINES OF HOUSING CHANGE, Thursday 29 July 2021, 6.30pm
Our housing histories is a collective project to document tenants’ stories in Scotland through timelines, text and photography and other creative means. By mapping our journeys through the housing system, we can track the personal, political and economic changes that affect tenants’ lives, as well as reflecting on our experiences, problems and moments of happiness.
GLASGOW HOUSING STRUGGLE ARCHIVE: FIRST WORKSHOP, Thursday 2 September 2021, 6.15pm
This participative workshop introduced the GHSA, discussing how we want to present the history of Glasgow tenant struggle on the new website, and look at how the collective memory of Red Clydeside has informed different generations of working-class activists in Glasgow.
SUSTAINABLE STORIES: CAPTURING AN AGE OF CHANGE IN COMMUNITY ARCHIVES, Wednesday 10 November, 2021
Members of the Life Support team and Joey Simons of the Glasgow Housing Struggle Archive/WEA will present on the connections between research for the exhibition and the GHSA, focusing on housing activism in Scotland. Sustainable Stories is the Community Archives and Heritage Group Scotland Network Conference 2021, and will take place both online and in person at The Point Community Hub, Govanhill, Glasgow.
MAYDAY ROOMS X GLASGOW HOUSING STRUGGLE ARCHIVE WORKSHOP, Wednesday 24 November 2021, 6pm
Join us for a workshop where we will be sharing collective knowledge and practical skills around archiving historical and contemporary housing movements. The workshop will be held with Glasgow Housing Struggle Archive, a new project from Living Rent members aimed at uncovering the city’s hidden history of squatting, rent strikes, and council tenant organisation, and connecting it with today’s ongoing fights, and MayDay Rooms, an archive and resource centre for social movements, experimental and marginal cultures and their histories in London.
